How do I troubleshoot the ice maker on my Kenmore refrigerator?

On my Kenmore Ice Maker you mentioned to check voltage at term L and N. Checked – No Voltage. Checked voltage at connector which plugs into ice maker on white / black 120 volts. Began to ohm out wires running through ice maker – white is fine, black is open. What is little black device inline on hot wire? No continuity through this device. I assume it's a temperature switch to turn ice maker on/off. Temp in freezer is fine. If the inline device is a temp switch, naturally I would assume it’s going to open when I have the ice maker out of the freezer. If in fact bad, is there a replacement available or should I just throw out the whole darn ice maker?
