I need to know how to set the valves on a 17 hp Briggs engine.

A push rod broke on my 17 hp Briggs motor. I replaced the push rod. Now the motor does not have any compression and it blows a lot of air out of the carb. The engine is model 310707. The year is 98, type 0137-e1, code 011218ze. How do I reset the valves? What do the valves set on and how to go about setting them.

If the valve is sticking does it have to be replaced or can it be dislodged to promote proper travel?
