I fixed my washer using these instruction. I just wanted to come back here and say thanks for posting this. I followed these instructions with the diagnostic tests, determined that in fact, the latch was bad. After replacement, the washer operated perfectly.
I'm happy that the washer has this type of self-diagnostic capabilities. It took some reading through but most of the info you need is in those instructions.
I registered the washer at Maytag.com and downloaded the operations manuals from there. I found a YouTube video by searching for the part number in YouTube that shows how to open the top of the washer to get access to the lid lock.
Note to others, to do the detailed lid lock test, you'll need a digital multi-meter to conduct the tests. If you squint really hard, you'll note the number "1" on the P12 connector that indicates pin number one. On mine, it was the white wire.
Overall, very helpful. Thanks again for posting. This post (plus some learning time from me) saved me the price of a service call plus visits to the laundromat while waiting for a service call. So I'm guessing that you saved me a solid $100. Thanks!
