I was so pleased after using the Roku 4 for over a month, that I purchased a second Roku 4 to use in another room. I was shocked at how much content (free content) was available. We had previously used Blu-ray players for streaming and when we switched to the Roku, the experience was likely going from Standard TV to HD. Extremely impressed with the speed and the simplicity in using the device. Will likely purchase additional Roku's for the other rooms in the house. Took it on vacation with us to use in our hotel room, after a long day out, that was nice.
I'm a big fan of Roku. I have 4 of them - 1 of them now being the Roku 4. Did I say BIG fan? Because the Roku 4 has a BIG fan that seems to never shut off & is VERY LOUD. Because the Roku 4 seems to run hot. It's also BIG. The Roku 4 is BIG. Quite a slab of hot plastic. The only reason to get one is for your 4K UHD TV, right? But for whatever reason, contrary to Roku's hype, the Roku 4 is very slow in its search routines - especially when I'm jumping around on YouTube, rdio, etc trying to stream that favorite music video. I can't figure that one out. Ya buy it for your top of the line 4K UHD TV, and it bogs down searching It's not just that it's slow. It bogs down and locks up while searching. Plus there are slight digital skips in movies that I never had before. Throughout. And I just switched from a Roku 3. NEVER had the issue before. At this stage, I don't know whether to await a software update, or send it back while Roku figures out the next 4K model. A software update will not fix the fan nor the GINORMOUS SIZE. I trust Roku and previously used a Roku 3 on the same TV. Just fine! But the Roku 4 is an absolute D-O-G.
This is a very good product but I think the Roku Stick is a much better value. 4k capability and improved performance over the 3....but little else to justify the price in my mind.
had picked up a new 4k 65" tv and initially purchased an new v2 ****** firetv box. noticed stuttering, audio sync issues and sluggishness at times.
returned the fire tv box and got the roku 4 ... night and day difference
UI is so much faster, 4k netflix playback is crisp and smooth, and roku media player is now as quick and behaved as anything else Ive used to play local media back.
I was a bit disappointed. The interface is not that great, it is very responsive, true, but is also overtly simple and unattractive. It is true that is offers tons of channels contained in Apps, issue is that most of them you have to pay to watch. They are subscription based. For that money I would go with Apple TV which looks better finished and a very promising App Store. I ended up returning the product.
