You can buy Samsung Refrigerators pretty much anywhere, and pretty much at the same price. So the choice of where to buy often boil down to when it can be delivered, free delivery and installation, free financing for a number of months, free returns. And that was the case for my choosing Sears. My old Samsung refrigerator was 10-years old and started losing cooling. Turns out all it needed was cleaning all the accumulated dirt dust off the compressor and coils on the hot side, and it was good to go - I probably should clean the coils every year or so, instead of wait 10 years. But I bought this new French door model with in-door water & ice, anyway -- because we needed another fridge for overflow. I love Samsung refrigerators with the dual cooling coils inside because they keep the cooling temperature exactly where you set it separately for freezer and fridge. The only advice I have is related to the new-type Reverse-osmosis water filter (new to me, anyway.) It is a lot slower than the old pass-thru charcoal filters, and to compensate, the new fridges have a reservoir. Initially it takes about 24 hours after hooking up the waterline and plugging in the electric cord for the reservoir to fill. So for the first 24 hours you won't get any cold water or ice. Just be patient, and after that initial 24 hours you will get prodigious amounts of ice and cold water.

Serious mechanical flaws

When it comes to getting a fridge, Samsung makes great flat screen televisions. I bought this sorry excuse for what they call an appliance when I moved into my new home. It is the absolute worst appliance I have ever owned. No, it is the worst I have used, because even the terrible ones in the cheap apartments I rented in as a young person were better. If the drawers aren?t full of water because the design of the auto defrost is poorly designed, then something else will be wrong. Thank God I kept my old fridge in the garage, because I have to empty this one several times a year when it frosts up so badly it has to be unplugged for two days. The repair person will tell you that the problem with this appliance is that it is just poorly designed. There is no fix for this. It is just a piece of junk. Samsung just keeps selling them this way though. Think I am kidding? Just Google ?water in the drawers of my Samsung? or ?Samsung icing up? and see how many thousands of hits you get. I bought a dishwasher at the same time. It is the second worst appliance I ever bought. The only reason it is better than the fridge is that it doesn?t break. It does a terrible job washing dishes, it stinks (literally) and you have to wash the dishes before they go in, but at least it doesn?t stop working. Seriously, do yourself a favor and avoid Samsung appliances. They suck. Samsung knows they suck. They don?t care. Don't read reviews from folks who have had this a month or two. Ask someone who has had it a year or more.

Do not buy this refrigerator

I moved into a 1-1/2 year old house that had this Samsung refrigerator. It is a nightmare to clean. Every single part of it is difficult to clean. If food or liquid gets under the clear plastic there is no way that, by yourself, you get can underneath the clear plastic (look at the drawers and you’ll see the clear plastic surrounding the handle). The glass top that sits on the double drawer...impossible to get out. And you need to in order to clean properly. I don’t mean there are not clips to release to get things apart, I mean it is impossible to actually move these clips. I tried for 2 hours, watched videos, used a screw driver, gently, which broke off a piece of the clear plastic. You will regret buying this refrigerator. It works okay, but it’s nothing special and the degree of difficulty in cleaning up after an inevitable spill makes this product a total mistake in product design. I believe you’ll regret it if you purchase it.

Lesson learned

|

We bought the fridge new in 2014. All is well in the beginning and then your extended 4 year warranty is up and then things go south. First, the ice maker constantly freezes and you need to defrost it and now the motor for the twin cooling unit gets ice build up and your unit sounds like a jet engine ready to lift off. Buyer beware, it looks nice and plays nice.....for awhile
