After some adjustments, I love this bike!

I had been researching bikes for several months, and found that I liked the Schwinn Discover 700 C Womens bike, model #S5397SR. I really liked the look, but after reading a lot of mixed reviews, I wasn't sure if it was worth nearly $400. I went to the store, and checked it out. The problem was that the tires didn't have a lot of air, so I couldn't test ride it in the store. Since it was on sale, and I could return it, I decided to buy it. The worst part was that the bike was too heavy for me to lift, so I had to wait nearly an hour after buying it, to get any help to put in my trunk. The salesman who sold it to me could see I was waiting for help, but he walked away and didn't help me. I had to ask another salesman, who finally helped me put it in my trunk. I had to tie it down myself, b/c they don't want the liability. The next day, I took the bike out for a test ride, and I could barely ride it as it felt like I was carrying a 200 pound load with a great deal of resistance. I am 5'6" medium build and athletic, so wasn't sure why it was so difficult to ride. I took it to a nearby bike shop and the bike technician made a few adjustments to breaks, checked gears, and adjusted seat height. He advised me to put the gear in 4 or 5 when riding on flat surfaces. I went on my way and what a difference! The only problem was the seat was killing my ****, so I went to another store and purchased a Schwinn Ultra Comfort Seat and have been loving my bike ever since! It's a beautiful bike and rides well. Considering the large price tag for the bike, I recommend the manufacturer change the seat to make it more comfortable to ride, make the bike lighter weight, change to metal mud guards instead of using cheap plastic, add a chain guard and a basket.

I did not buy the product, as being offered in bad shape.

Going to the store to pick it up, the employee brings us the bike being assembled and looking Ok. Attempting to pick the seat up, left the seat in my hand and the seat post left deep in the frame. The seat shock absorber was broken and pieces of it spilled to the ground. Also the bike kickstand was broken and missed most of its length.
The only other bike(same model) was having front fender dis-attached from top bracket and hanging on the floor still attached to the wheel hub.

Returning was quick at the place, but coming out of the store we saw same bike being set on the rack to sell again with same issues present.

Grandma loves a good ride!

Had to get a few bugaboos sorted out first...exchanged spring seat for a memory foam over gel, aluminum frame counter-weighted by front-loaded shocks (too heavy to safely carry upstairs), and lack of water bottle location...  Having said that, those shocks have saved me several times already as the bike absorbs an emergency stop so you don't fall off.  The curved handlebars are much more comfortable and controllable than the straight bar; and they allow me to standup for extra power and speed. Give me some sun and I'm out for a ride! Have fun!

Great Bike for the price

This bike gives you everything you would want in a women's bike. It's light weight, yet sturdy and with the quality Schwinn name, you know you can't go wrong. Schwinn has a limited lifetime Frame warranty which should help out if you need it.
