I was shocked at the size when the associate brought this item out to my van. With the four back seats down and taken out of the box, it barely fit in the back. One person installation onto our existing factory Honda roof rack was simple with bolts and nuts (plastic wing nuts). It is just out of the way of our sun roof and back hatch so it's perfect in my opinion. I haven't put anything in it but did drive around town with it installed, I honestly didn't know it was there. No noise, no noticeable drag. Storage could be an issue if you don't have somwhere for it but this gives you a bunch of room on your car/truck/van. I am looking forward to using this for our 13 hr drive on vacation with 7 people. This will add siginificant space! With a few discounts I scored this for just over two bills ($206 to be exact) and it seems like a fantastic deal based on the other models I looked it. Recommend!
The ad states that you can 'sit back and enjoy the ride knowing that all your precious cargo is shielded from the elements.' We sat back thinking that the rain outside our car would not be inside the car carrier... we were WRONG. Your items will get wet if it is raining outside and you are moving. Just beware!
I purchased the car top carrier less than a month ago. I used it in my travel to Florida from NY. To my dismay, it vibrates and rattled the entire trip. I was extremely concerned that it would fly off and cause an accident. I bought two previous x-cargo models and they were able to handle many trips. The design has changed and that may be the problem. All were placed on a Ford Explorer. Very, very disappointed.
I purchased this to have some extra room in my Outback (really for the dog) on long trips. This thing is pretty roomy. I almost thought i should've gotten the smaller one. The material is pretty sturdy, it doesn't wobble or shake on the roof. The hardware takes a minute to install, but at this price point you really can't complain about that. It firmly holds onto my factory crossbars!! I noticed a tiny bit of drag, and you definitely can hear a little more wind noise, but it's nothing terrible.
Execellent product. We fit 6 beech chairs, 3 boogie boards, a 10x10 canopy and various beech toys including a small tent. Total trip was 1700 miles with no issues. At times I forget it was on the roof. Note : when empty it will make a slight noise at 70 miles per hour. Under 70mph it's fine.
This is the 3rd sears x-cargo carrier that I have owned over the last 30 years. 1st was cream color, then white top and grey bottom, now the new black version. Great quality and super dependable. Only upgraded from the 1st to the 2nd because I wanted to be able to mount it to roof racks, only upgraded from the 2nd to the 3rd because I wanted more cargo space. Not one of them has failed. good quality and super dependable. Just like Kenmore and Craftsman.
