I was shocked at the size when the associate brought this item out to my van. With the four back seats down and taken out of the box, it barely fit in the back. One person installation onto our existing factory Honda roof rack was simple with bolts and nuts (plastic wing nuts). It is just out of the way of our sun roof and back hatch so it's perfect in my opinion. I haven't put anything in it but did drive around town with it installed, I honestly didn't know it was there. No noise, no noticeable drag. Storage could be an issue if you don't have somwhere for it but this gives you a bunch of room on your car/truck/van. I am looking forward to using this for our 13 hr drive on vacation with 7 people. This will add siginificant space! With a few discounts I scored this for just over two bills ($206 to be exact) and it seems like a fantastic deal based on the other models I looked it. Recommend!
The ad states that you can 'sit back and enjoy the ride knowing that all your precious cargo is shielded from the elements.' We sat back thinking that the rain outside our car would not be inside the car carrier... we were WRONG. Your items will get wet if it is raining outside and you are moving. Just beware!
I haven't traveled with the carrier yet. It is pretty lightweight. It has a lock but you need to make sure you push down on the lid before you lock it or it will not "catch" the mechanism. I'm putting this on top of a Ford Expedition so it is cumbersome. It took me about 45 minutes to "bolt" everything together to the roof rack rails. I will definitely need a 3-4 rung step stool to load and unload the carrier. I couldn't find the max load in the instructions but online, it states 100lbs of evenly distributed cargo. I have to put this on my SUV outside of the garage as it will be about 8ft tall (7ft garage door). It does have spring loaded hinges to help keep lid open. I'm hoping for the best.
We needed more cargo room for our family of 5 for a 7 day Wisconsin Dells family vacation. After doing some research, we settled for this one and I just love it. I was able to install it on our 01 DGC myself, in about 30 min. (Takes less time now) Ours came with the quick release screw knobs, I believe they are called. No tools need for assembly. This thing is hug and holds a lot of stuff. Its easy to load and unload with a step stool. We drove through three pretty big storms with no water getting inside. The spring hinges lift the top easily and the lock is well made. (Not theft proof, but will keep things secure). The carrier is light weight, well built and when not in use, is stored in the rafters in our garage. We lost about 2 miles per gallon, but not sure if it was because of all the cargo we carried. I didn't notice any wind drag or noise while traveling about 70 mph. Only down side is, which has nothing to do with it, we can't install it in our garage because it won't clear the garage door. So, I can't load it up the night before.
We are happy with our purchase... even though we haven't used our carrier yet. .. We paid a few bucks extra to have them put it on securely.
I would recommend you pay for them to put it on... Could be a little tricky if you're not experienced.
It looks like it will hold plenty. It has been rained on twice since we bought it an no leaks.
It was installed on the built-in roof racks of our 2014 Honda Odyssey with a perfect fit.
We, usually buy online but we wanted to actually see it and look at the inside and ... pay for installation locally.
I would recommend this product. Price is not the cheapest but this carrier seems to be good quality.
This cargo carrier is great. We carry a small ladder in the back to access it and the quality is decent. Good value.
Nice carrier and about the best I could find for the price. It handled all of the bugs and rain just fine. Not marking it 5 stars because of the drag on fuel economy. I'm losing close to 5 miles per gallon. Not happy about that! Asked Sears to exchange for the next size down and they won't. Also not happy about that.
For the price, you can't beat it.
I bought this carrier to use for a road trip in two months, so I haven't used it yet. I did take it out of the box and attached it to my van. It was very easy to attach and seems very secure. I think it will fit my needs for extra storage. We'll see.
